glass bottle and ipad 2 stars
fork morph 1 star
* the last 3 effects are really "not that good" at all.
How accurate is the ad copy? Read carefully: A brand new approach to 5 iconic magic plots. (i.e. new versions of old tricks)
What's in the box? DVD only
How are the production values: SansMinds always makes good quality DVDs
Is it well taught: It's a 30 minute DVD for 5 tricks, so each effect is really given to you "bare bones." No patter, and no harmony as to how all of these effects would fit together into an act.
My thoughts (what I personally liked/disliked): I liked the "idea" of this DVD that you could arrive in town with nothing, go to the hardware store and "build an act" but any experienced magician could just go to a big chain store and buy a deck of cards, perhaps some red solo cups and a few extras and build an act just as easily.
Storage? Does it "pack flat?" n/a
Does it "play big?" n/a
Difficulty / Skill level required: no skill, in fact I think the best audience for this DVD is actually NOT magicians at all, but rather people who have to do magic for a talent show or for a classroom and they don't know what to do. These people pop into magic forums all the time asking for help. This DVD would at least give them a nice little act without exposing the "good" methods to these effects.
How much arts and crafts are involved? tons
How practical is this in the real world? (can it really be done?) I mention this in my video, but really only 2 of them are practical, the other three I think have angle issues, are awkward, picked a poor choice for materials or only work well in video.
Overall score: let's toss out the traditional score of 1-10 and make this something that we all can appreciate and understand.
_____ Very Satisfied
_____ Somewhat Satisfied
_____ Neither Satisfied or Dissatisfied
_____ Somewhat Dissatisfied
X Very Dissatisfied
_____ No Opinion
You can clearly see what tricks are included from the commercial, if you want it $20 is not a lot to loose on a magic DVD and we've all bought a stinker or two in the past. Otherwise I'd say "save your money."
